Energy future consumption
16 Oct 2007 energy consumption in the United States is approxi- mately 350 billion joules per year, or 230,000 kilocal- ories per day. Thus, the average 9 Jun 2016 Fossil fuels supplied 72% of the country's energy consumed in 2013, while non- hydro renewables provided 12%, and hydroelectricity provided The global energy crisis, coupled with the threat of climate change, demands innovation in the energy sectors, and responsible consumption for both developed 26 Oct 2017 All three cases included in Canada's Energy Future 2017 show Canada reducing our fossil fuel consumption trends compared to previous Forecasts by the leading companies and organizations, outlined in the GEO, conclude that despite population growth, global primary energy consumption over the next 25 years will slow considerably relative to past decades. Between 1990 and 2015 global energy consumption rose by 190 quadrillion Btu (qBtu) These projections agree that—absent ambitious climate policies—global energy consumption will grow 20–30% or more through 2040 and beyond, led largely by fossil fuels. This growth is driven by population and economic growth in the global “East,” while energy consumption in the “West” remains roughly flat. EIA’s International Energy Outlook 2018 (IEO2018) focuses on how different drivers of macroeconomic growth may affect international energy markets in three heavily populated and high economic growth regions of the world: China, India, and Africa.

Renewables 8%, nuclear 9%, coal 21%, natural gas 25%, and oil 37%. A second pie chart of the US energy consumption in 2035 shows the prediction of the percentage of each type of energy that will be consumed for that year. Renewables 16%, nuclear 9%, coal 20%, natural gas 26%, and oil 32%. There was no suggestion of voluntarily reducing consumption. Future development of energy sources may be focused on several goals: exploiting largely untapped fossil fuel resources (e.g. tar sands); developing technologies for cleaner fossil fuel use; developing the exploitation of renewable energy sources; and overcoming problems such as intermittency and energy storage. China’s coal consumption and total energy consumption increased by 1% and 3.3%, respectively, in 2019. Consumption of natural gas rose by 8.6%, followed by crude oil (+6.8%) and electricity (+4.5%). Overall, gas, hydropower, nuclear and wind power accounted for 23.4% of the total energy consumption (+1.3 percentage points on 2018). Energy use in non-OECD countries is projected to grow by 2.2% per year, and the share of non-OECD energy use is expected to rise from 54% of total world energy use in 2010 to 65% in 2040. Through 2040, the IEO2017 projects increased world consumption of marketed energy from all fuel sources, except for coal demand, which is projected to remain essentially flat. Renewables are expected to be the fastest-growing energy source, with consumption increasing by an average 2.3% per year between 2015 and 2040.
